Heliotropium arborescens is an attractive shrub that may reach 5' high and 8' wide. Lilac-colored blossoms appear in spring and then in fall; flowers look like cluster balls. Color fades to white with time. This shrub tolerates full sun in coastal areas but will need afternoon shade in warmer, inland areas. This plant does best in moist, fertile, well draining soil. Vanilla scented flowers attract bees, birds and butterflies. Foliage is dark green, veined and about 3" long. Longer lasting and more reliable than other Heliotropes.
