Tussock Sedge forms dense tussocks on wet sites and tolerates seasonal flooding. More rhizomatous on drier sites; form varies across its natural range. It can be found in marshes, bogs, wet meadows, and shorelines primarily in northern and eastern U.S. Carex stricta grows in a dense green mound and spreads by rhizomes. In the wild, old foliage decomposes and enriches the soil. Tussock Sedge can be planted at or near the water line, in moist woodland gardens or in low areas that receive intermittent flooding. It is a good plant for wetland restoration, swamps, marshes, bogs, ponds, swales, ditches, or meadows.
